I gave this presentation at Senac-DF with a simple question in mind: why does Java remain so relevant after more than 30 years?
The talk was created for students and developers who wanted to understand Java beyond the old idea of a “legacy language”. My goal was to show Java as a modern, mature, and constantly evolving ecosystem for backend and enterprise software development.
Choosing Java is not choosing the past. It is choosing an ecosystem that continues to evolve while remaining deeply connected to real-world software engineering.
About the talk
During the presentation, I explored Java’s evolution, its role in critical systems, the strength of its ecosystem, the importance of global communities, and why the language continues to create strong career opportunities for developers.
The talk covered topics such as modern Java, Virtual Threads, Spring Boot, Quarkus, Micronaut, Jakarta EE, Maven, Gradle, JUnit, JPA, Hibernate, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenJDK, JCP, SouJava, and the Java job market.
The main idea was to show that Java is not standing still. It continues to adapt to cloud computing, distributed systems, modern concurrency, and the next generation of enterprise applications.
Why it matters
Java is present in financial systems, government platforms, healthcare, telecom, cloud-native applications, microservices, and large-scale backend infrastructures.
For developers who want to build reliable backend systems, Java remains a powerful and valuable choice because it combines maturity, stability, tooling, community, and long-term market demand.

This presentation is part of my journey as a Java developer, speaker, and community organizer at SouJava Brasília.
I believe Java continues to be one of the best paths for developers who want to understand backend development, enterprise systems, software architecture, and long-term career growth.
