SouJava Brasília at FIAP: Java, AI, hardware, career, and community in the same room

On February 7, 2026, SouJava Brasília held another community meetup,
this time hosted at FIAP Brasília, with the support of
Oracle and the presence of the GDG Brasília community.

The event brought together developers, students, professionals, and technology enthusiasts
for a morning focused on Java, artificial intelligence, robotics, hardware, career,
entrepreneurship, and the role of community in a developer’s journey.

More than a technical event, the meetup showed how powerful it can be when different
communities come together around the same purpose: sharing knowledge, creating opportunities,
and helping people grow through technology.

As part of the broader SouJava JUG, SouJava Brasília continues to strengthen the local Java
ecosystem in Brazil’s Federal District by creating spaces where learning, networking,
and real conversations can happen in person.

Opening the day with community and collaboration

The meetup started by reinforcing the importance of the Java community and the history of
SouJava as one of the most relevant Java user groups in the world. The opening also highlighted
the collaborative nature of the event, bringing together SouJava Brasília, FIAP, Oracle, and
GDG Brasília.

This combination of communities and institutions made the event even more meaningful. FIAP
provided the space, Oracle supported the initiative, and GDG Brasília joined the conversation,
showing that local tech communities become stronger when they work together instead of
walking separately.

A strong technology community is not built by one person alone. It is built by people
who decide to participate, contribute, share, and help others move forward.

AI with Java: connecting LLMs to real applications

One of the main talks of the day was presented by Leonardo Segala, who spoke
about LangChain, AI, and Spring Boot, translating complex artificial
intelligence concepts into a more practical Java context.

The talk explored how developers can connect generative AI to real Java systems without
treating AI as something isolated from the business. Instead of looking at large language models
only as chat interfaces, the presentation showed how they can be connected to company data,
business rules, tools, and existing applications.

One of the central ideas was that frameworks and libraries such as LangChain can help orchestrate
interactions between LLMs, knowledge bases, vector databases, application tools, and conversational
memory.

In practice, this means that an AI assistant can do more than answer generic questions. It can
understand business context, search information in a vector database, use tools exposed by an
application, respect predefined rules, and interact with real systems in a controlled way.

During the demonstration, the architecture included Spring Boot, an LLM provider,
a vector database, document ingestion from a CSV file, semantic search, conversational memory,
and application tools capable of performing actions such as identifying a customer or opening a
support request.

This kind of demonstration is important because it brings AI closer to the reality of enterprise
software development. It shows that the future of AI in companies will not be only about prompts,
but about architecture, integration, data, security, context, and responsibility.

Guardrails, memory, and responsibility

Another important point discussed during the AI presentation was the need for safeguards.
When an application connects an LLM to business data and corporate tools, it also needs to
protect information, validate user intent, avoid unauthorized access, and reduce hallucination.

This is where concepts such as guardrails, input and output filters, restricted knowledge bases,
and controlled tool execution become essential.

The presentation also covered conversational memory, showing how an assistant can maintain context
across interactions without forcing the user to repeat the same information all the time.

These topics are especially relevant for Java developers working with enterprise systems, because
they connect modern AI capabilities with principles that are already familiar in software engineering:
security, maintainability, reliability, and clear boundaries.

Beyond code: hardware, robotics, and real-world problem solving

The event also opened space for a broader conversation about what developers can build when they
go beyond the screen.

In a talk connected to hardware, code, entrepreneurship, and real-world experimentation,
Gledson shared experiences involving projects such as 3D printing, Arduino,
ESP32, sensors, and solutions created to solve practical problems.

One of the strongest messages was that code can be a starting point, but it does not need to be
the final destination. Programming gives developers a foundation that can be expanded into robotics,
automation, hardware, product development, research, and entrepreneurship.

This is especially valuable for students and beginners. A college project, a prototype, or a

professional path.

The message was simple and powerful: use the learning environment to test, build, make mistakes,
improve, and discover what technology can do outside the purely virtual world.

from GDG Brasília, the meetup connected technical learning with professional
